Based on a vintage jigsaw puzzle from the 1960's, Robert Lazzarini puzzle 3 resides somewhere between attraction and repulsion. The application of a mathematical distortion displaces notions of corporeal beauty and the female ideal. puzzle 3 conjures the 1933 distortions of Andre Kertesz, whose female nudes come out of fascination with reflection and mirrors. Irregular-shaped jigsaw puzzle pieces are made more unusual by the artist, expanding and contracting the space of the image. The process of assembling jigsaw puzzle is the interplay between the complete and incomplete picture - here it presents the fragmentation of the body and bodily wholeness.
